Enabling Innovation with Data Sharing
Event Information
About this Event
It has been said that in the digital economy, data is like oil was during the industrial revolution. At all levels of Government, there is an increasing need to safely and securely share information as it is widely accepted that sharing data is a powerful innovation enabler.
Australia is actively participating in a global effort between Governments, Standards Bodies and Academia to develop data sharing practices that promote collaboration while preserving privacy.
This Masterclass covers the learnings of the work done to date as well as it’s practical implementation at the local government level through Policy and Procedure.
At the end of the masterclass, you will have explored:
- There are dozens or reasons who data is not easily shared. We will deal with many of these reasons to enable practical sharing– even for sensitive data.
- There are lots of tools that enable data to be captured, stored and shared but without a policy framework sharing doesn’t happen. We will show how policy enable sharing.
- Assessing every data set and every use case sound complex and time consuming. We will introduce a simple process for assessing data sets that works every time. Even when data is too sensitive to share.
- Open data is an extreme case of data sharing. We will show how actively assessing data sets can reduce the risks associated with all forms of sharing including Open data.
- Everyone strives to encourage Innovation. In today’s digital economy, sharing data is a critical enabler. Learning how to safely and effectively share data is a key outcome of this masterclass.
This masterclass will be facilitated by Geof Heydon, who has extensive practical executive management, innovation and consulting experience in telecommunications, science and the emerging digital economy.
