Description

EDIE -Educational Dementia Immersive Experience™

EDIE is a new virtual reality education program that allows people to walk in the shoes of a person living with dementia and provide insight into the day to day lived experiences. EDIE has been tailored for delivery to family carers in a group workshop style and provides individual follow up support for family carers. The EDIE experience aims to:

  • Increase understanding for the person living with dementia, resulting in a reduction of stress for the carer
  • Increase effective communication between carers and people living with dementia
  • Support carers to understand the benefits of adaptive dementia-friendly changes to the home environment for themselves and the person they care for.

Topics covered include:

  • How the brain changes with dementia
  • What it is like for Edie
  • How to help Edie and Marci
  • The importance of communication
  • Modifying the environment By using VR Gear (Virtual reality goggles) this experience allows users to explore a moment in time as Edie, who has a diagnosis of dementia. You will face the difficulties experienced by Edie as he undertakes simple activities of daily living.

The session will discuss the EDIE for Family Carers program and explore the benefits of VR technology as a means of supporting carers of people living with dementia to improve communication, reduce stress and support enhanced wellbeing for both the carer and the person living with dementia.
