Event description

Description

Change has been constant for health and social service organisations for many years, now requiring services to be more responsive to their service users, communities and funding bodies.

The Frankston Mornington Peninsula ‘Multi-sector Communities of Practice (FMPCoP)’ has been established to support cross-sectoral collaboration to better understand and respond to the complex, changing operating environment as a result of various health and social service reforms.

The FMPCoP invites organisations from the disability, mental health, aged care and other community service sectors to attend our first community forum considering the topic of ‘Consumer Directed Care’, primarily focusing on practitioner and organisation capacity building to enable “participants to exercise choice and control in deciding how, when and by whom in relation to the delivery of their supports”

Presenters include:

This forum will bring together researchers, advocates, policy makers and practice leaders to discuss good practice and capacity buidling strategies to prepare the health and social services sector to deliver services under consumer directed care reforms, including:

  1. Principles of consumer choice and control, which take into account existing supported decision (SDM) making principles and frameworks;

  2. Awareness raising, education and training mechanisms specifically related to enabling choice and control for people with psychosocial support needs; and

  3. Evidence and research supporting people with psychosocial support needs to identify how they would like to have choice and control supports provided

Objectives for this forum in supporting improved capacity for consumer choice and control would be to:

  1. Help organisations to identify and implement required cultural and business system based changes to support the adoption of consumer led service delivery;

  2. Help frontline service delivery practitioners to apply more consumer led work practices in the way that they undertake their day to day activity; and

  3. Help consumers and carers to build confidence and skills to exercise choice and control when engaging with service providers.
