About this Event
Join acclaimed painter Luke Sciberras for a one-day en plein air painting workshop in the beautiful surrounds of Tumbulgum on the banks of the Tweed River in Northern NSW.
Explore painterly approaches to the landscape as well as ways to incorporate personal symbolism in relationship to place. This class is suitable for those with some painting experience.
In conjunction with the exhibition Arthur Boyd: Landscape of the Soul , a Bundanon Trust Touring Exhibition on display at the Gallery 8 January until 28 February 2021.
Choose either Saturday 20 or Sunday 21 February 2021 for a one-day workshop, 9.00am – 4.00pm DST | $145 Lunch included.
Participants will gather at the Tweed Regional Gallery to view the exhibition Arthur Boyd: Landscape of the Soul before driving to the beautiful town of Tumbulgum just 10 minutes from the Gallery. Luke will then lead a series of exercises exploring painting techniques, compositions and developing a personal approach to landscape painting. Enjoy lunch alfresco at House of Gabriel, Tumbulgum.
Terms & Conditions Please note this en plein air workshop begins at the Gallery and moves to Tumbulgum. Participants should gather on time, leaving their materials in their car.
All participants will require their own transport, and bring a hat, a bottle of drinking water, sunscreen and suitable shoes.
All arrangements are pending weather conditions and COVID-19 measures, and a full refund will be given in the event that the workshop cannot go ahead.
Materials list
- Art paper in varying sizes, approx 200-300 gsm
- Paints: gouache or acrylics of varying colours and tones, mostly an earth palette and a few primaries, and a small pot of white acrylic paint
- Plastic bowls for mixing paints
- Large bottle of water for painting
- Six to ten brushes of varying sizes and shapes, and a palette knife.
- A firm board or two to lean your work on and to use as a palette.
- A large piece of good quality paper or two, or a canvas or primed board
- Any other support material, reproductions of previous work, or supplies feel free to bring as a reference or point of discussion
- A light portable stool if required
Please note that the above is a suggested list only and the Gallery will also provide some supplementary materials including:
- coloured pastels
- black ink
- mixing bowls and jar
- firm boards to lean on
