Event description

We are pleased to invite you to our next Victorian Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Group (EMUG) Clinical Leaders in Ultrasound Network (CLN) Meeting.

This invite only event aims to bring together the key stakeholders for Ultrasound education and training around the state to help promote, implement and maintain Point of Care Ultrasound programmes within our individual hospitals.

Where: Activity Rooms, Kathleen Syme Library & Community Centre, Faraday street, Carlton.

When: 6.30pm, Thursday 5 October 2017.

Light refreshments & Finger Food Provided.

We will move on to the Markov on Drummond Street for post-meeting socialisation and you will be able to purchase dinner there.

Previously our meetings have been more of a free discussion with a number of interesting topics being brought up. We really want to focus our CLN meetings to establish and maintain a number of important EMUG objectives as well as providing some leadership guidance and support for your ultrasound programmes.

We have decided to make this event invite-only and free from industry/sponsors in order to facilitate this.

Please feel free to invite other colleagues that you feel may be interested. In particular, we would like you to identify an advanced trainee from your hospital who is interested in POCUS to attend.

Some exciting new features that we are going to incorporate into the meeting include

  • Discussion of a shared EMUG wide resource folder & Our New EMUG Website

  • Q&A with CCPU and DDU holders on how to best advance your POCUS skills

  • Discuss an Ultrasound Utopia with Dr Adrian Goudie (DDU) - how to establish and maintain your ultrasound programme.

Our CLN meeting will also feature our Inaugural POCUS Journal Club – 30 minutes of high yield POCUS goodness where we can discuss some of the latest and the past greatest POCUS papers around.

For this meeting, we will be discussing 3 papers:

1. Point-of-Care Ultrasonography for Evaluation of Acute Dyspnea in the ED.

Zanobetti, Maurizio et al. CHEST, Volume 151, Issue 6 , 1295 – 1301

2. Emergency department point-of-care ultrasound in out-of-hospital and in-ED cardiac arrest

Gaspari, Romolo et al. Resuscitation, Volume 109, 33 - 39

3. Point-of-care ultrasonography for the management of shoulder dislocation in ED

Akyol, Can et al. The American Journal of Emergency Medicine, Volume 34, Issue 5, 866 - 870

To facilitate the discussion, we will be using the PDPADA appraisal format. If you would like to volunteer to lead one of the discussions then please let us know.

The meeting date was chosen to tie in with ASUM conference that commences on the following day and we are aiming to have a number of interstate clinical leaders attend the meeting.

We look forward to seeing you on the night, and please don't forget to confirm your attendance by registering with the Eventbrite page. We hope that by investing a small amount of time in the EMUG-Vic Clinical Leaders meetings and network, you will be able to improve your Ultrasound programme, and learn from - and inspire - others!

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The venue is easily accessed via public transport. Any tram along Swanston Street headed towards the University of Melbourne can be taken from CBD. Get off at the University, and it's a 2min walk from there.

Metered Parking is available on the surrounding streets and in nearby undercover parks.

Do I have to pay for the sessions?

One of our committee members will respond to your query as soon as possible.

How can I cancel a registration if I find I cannot now make the sessions?

Email emugvic@gmail.com and let us know so we can adjust seating and other arrangements. We require a minimum of two weeks notice for a full refund. After this time unfortunately the registration fee is non-refundable.
