Empowering Pacific Island Countries through highlighting the health co-benefits of a clean-energy transition
Dr Tom Cole-Hunter is a CAR Postdoctoral Research Fellow supported by the Centre for Air pollution, energy and health Research (CAR) a NH&MRC Centre of Research Excellence. He is based at the International Laboratory for Air Quality and Health, Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, Queensland University of Technology, since August 2018.
This seminar will present the background, preliminary results and future plans of Dr Cole-Hunter’s current work leading pilot studies throughout the South Pacific (Fiji, Solomon Islands), exploring the environmental health co-benefits of clean-energy transitions. This work is backed by a larger consortium including regional universities, the World Health Organisation, Asian Development Bank and UNICEF.
Tom has previously worked with the European Commission and the National Institutes of Health (USA) to study the subclinical health effects of exposure to emissions from different energy practices (e.g. motorised transport, biomass cookstoves, respectively). Tom obtained his PhD with ILAQH, a WHO Collaborating Centre, at QUT in 2013.
