The precise shape of future labour markets is complex and contested, allowing for a broader consensus around themes of flexibility and fluidity and the imprint of the digital economy.  Within this landscape, what are the key technical drivers of labour market change and what skills will the future worker require?  Recognising the importance of employment to coherent, connected and diverse communities, this School of Business and Centre for Western Sydney forum provides an opportunity to discuss the consequences of key employability questions for Western Sydney, identify areas of future research and highlight the potential for engaged work-integrated learning to facilitate employability.

The forum will comprise two parts. The first hour will include three presentations:

Professor Phillip O’NeillFinding jobs for Western Sydney’s next 300,000 workers (in twenty years).

Dr Jayne Bye – From crisis to capacity building in Miller – the challenge of employability in a Western Sydney community

Dr Wayne Fallon – Employability as Curriculum Challenge and OpportunityThese presentations will be followed by a wide ranging and interactive expert panel discussion. Panelists and the audience will have an opportunity to respond to the ideas raised in the presentations, identify what they assess to be key employability challenges and opportunities for Western Sydney and assess future engagement and research priorities for the region.
