Event Details

The topic of Emotional Intelligence has generated more column inches than nearly any other people management topic over the last two decades. After being first posited by Wayne Payne in 1985 the idea was taken up by the likes of John Mayer and Peter Salovey and Daniel Goleman in their famous books on the topic which popularised this very marketable concept.

Over the last few years the world of research has radically reviewed its perspective on emotional intelligence, concluding that it is largely a composite of personality and that it boils down to three key components:

  • Can you read your own and other people’s emotions?
  • Can you manage your own emotions?
  • Do you use emotional information to make decisions?

This raises some very interesting questions, such as:

  • Do these three “abilities” predict anything in the real world? For instance, do people who are higher in these make better leaders?
  • Are all of these three good things? For instance, do we want people to use their emotions in making decisions?
  • If we are already measuring personality is there a good reason to measure emotional intelligence in addition?
  • Is there an easy way to measure these things?

During this presentation Andrew will take you on a quick world tour of the latest research in this area. He will also show you the results of a major study into emotional intelligence conducted in 2014 by SACS Consulting where we showed that we were able to predict scores on an internationally validated emotional intelligence scale with up to 60% accuracy by using the person’s HEXACO personality inventory scores as well as their Schwartz Personal Values Questionnaire scores. SACS will be offering this new measure of Emotional Intelligence to clients of our online measurement portal.
Join us for the most contemporary information on this topic, which has fascinated millions of people over recent years.
