Event description

Description

Doctor Yannick Schwab, team leader and head of the Electron Microscopy Core Facility at the EMBL's prestigious Heidelberg site, will give a plenary address as part of the 4th Annual EMBL Australia PhD Course at Monash University.

Dr Schwab and his team, in collaboration with scientists and industrial partners across the world, have developed strategies in the field of correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) to create high-precision 3D images of complex biological models at the subcellular level. Their innovations in combining microscopy techniques and automating data acquisition aim to improve the throughput of data collection from cell cultures and large specimens.

By investigating cell function at such a detailed level, Dr Schwab's work has provided insights into the immune system, tumour development, and diseases such as Dengue Fever and Zika.

The address will be held at Monash University's Clayton campus. Building location will be advised closer to the event.
