Event description

Description

Capacity: 60
Registration and morning tea: 9–9.30am
Workshop:
9.30am–3.30pm (lunch provided; please note any dietary requirements when booking)

This workshop for upper primary and secondary school librarians and teachers explores how the Research Skill Development (RSD) framework can be applied in the curriculum to make the development of research skills an explicit element of learning.

The RSD framework is a conceptual pedagogical tool that describes research skills and their development within a learning continuum. Participants in this workshop will explore the RSD framework through interactive group work activities and discovery learning approaches.

Successful models and applications of the RSD framework in practice will be shared, including how it is underpinning collaborative teaching partnerships between teaching staff and librarians.

The workshop is focused on practical outcomes, and an opportunity will be provided to interpret the RSD framework for your own context, including:

  • exploring research skills through discovery pedagogies
  • describing the range of skills associated with the research process
  • identifying the relationship between research skill development and student autonomy
  • demonstrating how research skills can become an explicit element in curriculum design to enhance student learning
  • enabling collaborative partnerships to enhance student learning through research skill development as skills for learning.
