Course overview

For some clients who receive CHSP support services their contact with others is very limited. For example, a client who receives a "Meals On Wheels" service may rely on this link for external contact each week.

For this reason it is imperative that your staff and volunteers are able to identify the types, signs and symptoms of Elder Abuse and Neglect and know when and how to respond and report.

Topics covered

  • Background to elder abuse and neglect.
  • Identifying the types and signs of elder abuse and neglect.
  • The three forms of detection of elder abuse and neglect.
  • How to respond to situations involving abuse and neglect?
  • Barriers to reporting and when to report and to whom.
  • Capacity, consent and intervention.
  • Additional resources.

Who should participate?

Priority of access to this training is given to staff and volunteers currently working in Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) funded services located in the local government areas of; The City of Sydney, Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and Bayside.

This training is ideally suited to Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) funded direct service staff and volunteers.

How do I get there?

There are a number of different transport options for you to choose from depending upon your departure point.

  • Trains: Bondi Junction Train station is located 5 minutes walk (300 metres) away from the Mill Hill Centre.  Trains on this line are T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra lines.
  • Driving: metered on street parking is available or use the car park in the Eastgate Shopping Centre, Ebley Street, Bondi Junction - located 1 block away from the training venue.
