Educator's Workshop

Special Guest Speaker: Diane Snowball

Reading - Making Sure Every Student Improves

Following our highly successful Term 1 workshop with David Hornsby, we are excited to offer you the opportunity to spend a day with internationally respected educator, literacy consultant and author, Diane Snowball.  Diane has worked in education for 50 years, teaching in primary and secondary schools, training teachers in universities and providing professional learning for teachers and school leaders in primary and secondary schools in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA. Diane is a Past President and an Honorary Life member of ALEA.

You may have seen Diane when she featured on the ABC's Revolution School.

In Diane's words:

"This seminar will reinforce the value of quality teaching practices that ensure each student’s literacy improves; practices that support every child to achieve their maximum capacity as readers. Fortunately, the best practices in literacy teaching and learning also lead to the greatest improvement in standardised tests."

The morning will explore the essential factors primary educators need to understand to effectively lead learning in reading, including:

  • The amount of time students need to independently read throughout the entire year
  • The resources students are reading
  • The clear and explicit teaching of reading as a meaning-making endeavour
  • The focus on students becoming active and metacognitive readers
  • Effective conferences that assess, monitor, teach and differentiate
  • The planning and teaching of all aspects of reading in the most effective ways
  • The importance of continually increasing students’ world knowledge and understanding it's connection to reading.

Hope you can join us for an inspiring day with one of our leaders in literacy learning.
