Description

Discover your ability to impact the world through experiential education.

Build personal, community and global leadership skills with JUMP! programs.

The JUMP! Workshop on Experiential Learning is designed for primary, secondary & pre-service teachers, with a focus on enabling experiential learning in a classroom to foster engagement of young people in their communities. This program will capture your enthusiasm for innovative education at school. You’ll learn from the best—our expert JUMP! facilitators—who will guide you every step of the way and encourage you to use your knowledge and skills with confidence and clarity.

Start your experiential education journey with this basic one-day workshop! We create a space for you to learn how experiential education can enrich your teaching style, and how to put it into action in the classroom.

Participants will explore:

  • Personal Discovery: To engage participants in developing an understanding of who they are as individuals
  • Community Building: To build a sense of community between educators and to explore tools that can help build community for students
  • Facilitation Development: To empower educators with tools and skills for effective facilitation to create experiential classrooms where students “learn by doing”

The program centres on unpacking the experiential learning process and identifying needs of individuals and students. Educators will reflect on how the language they use, the questions they present, and the group management tools they employ shape positive learning experiences and mindsets for their students.

Professional Standards:

The workshop will focus on standard 4 and 6 of the Australian Professional Standards for teachers. Learn how to create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments by increasing student engagement and differentiating your learning to build diversity and inclusion.

All participants will be awarded a certificate listing the modules they have completed with JUMP! Foundation.

About the Facilitators:

Aditi Agrawal: Aditi envisions a world where every child is smarter and kinder; and where both their minds and hearts have been educated. She is passionate about education, entrepreneurship and exploration. She got her first taste for entrepreneurship when she started and grew her first NGO at the age of 17. Since then, she has worked across the globe in the education sector, as a program manager, curriculum designer and facilitator, teacher, researcher, content developer, designer and impact evaluator. She has lived and worked in India, Kenya, Italy, Thailand, Cambodia, and Australia.

Carson Townsend: Carson has lived in Chile, Morocco, Spain, and New England (which he considers to be a foreign country), and over the course of his escapades, he has developed a passion for coffee-tasting, urban cycling, and youth empowerment, the lattermost passion leading him to JUMP! Carson has an eye to showing the world the benefits of experiential education as an effective avenue to youth empowerment and personal reflection. He has delivered student leadership programs in China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Switzerland, the UAE, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore. He has a keen interest in global collaboration, co-creating with teachers and student choice.

Richard Dobbie: Rick is an ex-Australian Army Officer with a passion for adventure travel and photography. After leaving the Australian Defence Force Rick started his own business SAFAR, “Journey” conducting Leadership and Teamwork Development programs and workshops internationally. This led to setting up and leading facilitated experiential journeys to Antarctica, the Arctic, Africa, the Amazon and throughout South East Asia. Rick’s journeys on the pathways, rivers and seas less travelled have afforded many opportunities to see the rare and unusual. From polar bears hunting and orcas frolicking in the Arctic to lions hunting in Africa, colourful flowers and scenes from across South East Asia, to penguins marching in Antarctica. Rick leads small groups on adventure travel journeys exploring leadership and teamwork and the world at large - “journeys for the journeys within.”

Feedback:

“It was interactive and stimulating, and with such a good variety of facilitation exercises, there was something for everyone to take home.” -Alex Hegmann, Participant in Melbourne

“Through our ideas and the new ideas we encountered, we found similarities between all the community challenges and we could see we were not alone. There are so many people that share our ideas. We can use these ideas to build a better society, and through practical actions we will make them a reality.”- Yiwen Wu, Participant in Nairobi
