Ensure a clear sense of 'you' as the author in your writing. Learn how to become an advocate of your work.
About this event
Ensure a clear sense of ‘you’ as the author in your writing. This workshop draws on examples from STEM to develop your toolkit for stylish and persuasive writing. Learn how to become an advocate of your work and guide readers towards your intended meanings using a range of linguistic strategies. Understand how disciplinary-specific conventions can affect how you engage with others’ work, structure writing, discuss your results in a logical and meaningful way, and integrate evidence.
Preparation work: Please have a draft of your own work ready, and select 2 or 3 academic articles written by other authors that you love or find effective as examples of good scholarly writing. Ask yourself – why do you enjoy reading them? And, are there elements of the writing style that stand out?
Please note that this workshop is for current ANU students only. Academic Skills will send a Zoom link to your student account and a reminder on the day.
This workshop is part of the Science, Health and Medicine Career development Framework program and can be counted as a valid activity.
