Description

Vice-Chancellor Professor Steve Chapman and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships) Professor Cobie Rudd invite you to the 2018 Edith Cowan Memorial Lecture celebrating International Women’s Day.

The official 2018 International Women’s Day campaign theme is #PressForProgress. Join us as we hear from 6 inspirational women across the lifespan, from aspiring students to senior career professionals, and acknowledge the positive gains women and girls are making every day around the world.

The panel includes:

  • Tanika Van Schelven, Secret Harbour Primary School – One of the youngest children ever to travel to Antarctica under the Australian Antarctic Program in 2017;

  • Alyssa Wong and Lily Purser, Shenton College – Winners in the 2017 United Nations Association of Australia WA Sustainability Challenge;

  • Aquila Burhani, Edith Cowan University – 5th year chemical engineering student and President of Women in Engineering at ECU;

  • Elyse Villani – Cricketer for the Australian national women’s team and Perth Scorcher for the Women's Big Bash League; and

  • Ashley Stewart, Newton Moore Senior High School – Head of Mathematics and 2017 recipient of the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute’s Mentoring Girls in Maths Award.

ECU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships) Professor Cobie Rudd will moderate the panel discussion and pose a series of questions around how we are tracking on gender equality in Australia today.

I hope you can join us in celebrating the achievements of role models across the generations as they move us towards gender equality by action and example.
