Description

Overview

Kate Wall is a consulting gardener with The Gardeners Wall and a garden writer and workshop presenter based in Brisbane. She has extensive experience with gardening in the subtropics and is keenly promoting successful gardening for our subtropical climate with an ongoing emphasis on sustainable gardening.

In this workshop, Kate will draw on her extensive knowledge and experience with weeds that grow in SEQ. Kate's teachings involve using the garden to enhance our lifestyles, which includes growing climate appropriate food, flowers, herbs and food as medicine. Weeds provide us with an incredible free resource and if we will be guided by them, they will teach us much about the conditions in our gardens. Many of our common weeds are also incredibly nutritious foods with powerful medicinal properties.

Is this workshop for you?

Would you like better manage the weeds in your patch instead of constantly being in battle with them?

Would you like to put those same weeds to work for you?

Are you interested in maximising your health and avoiding the winter bugs by using what grows in your garden?

This workshop is for gardeners, farmers, landscapers, and anyone interested in healthy eating or simply learning more about the weeds in their patch.

You will learn about:

  • Common weeds found throughout SEQ – including which ones make good eating.
  • Which weeds are of use and the important role they play in the garden.
  • Which weeds are beneficial to our health and which can be used to keep winter bugs at bay.
  • How best to incorporate these weeds into your daily diet.

The morning will include:

  • An information session followed by Q&A
  • A weed forage in the grounds at Millen Farm
  • Plenty of opportunities to ask questions and taste weeds

The knowledge you will take away:

Following this workshop, you will have the ability to identify and safely select weeds for use in the kitchen. The knowledge gained will allow you to manage problem weeds and turn them into valuable free resources. You will have the knowledge to restore and maintain good health simply by adding a few weeds to your daily diet.

In addition, you will meet a lot of other people who share the same passion for making the most of the resources their garden makes available to them

Inclusions:

You will have the opportunity to taste many of the weeds discussed.

Kate will have a detailed booklet on the subject available for purchase.

What you need to bring:

Hat

Sunscreen

Morning tea

Water bottle

Paper/pen if you are an avid note taker

Note: This workshop will cater for an adult audience, and requires a minimum 10 participants to proceed.
