DESIGN WORKSHOP

INTERDISCIPLINARY PROJECTS

WITH

What is this workshop about?

In this workshop, our project focus will be around PICA's exhibition:

Energies: Haines & Hinterding

We will work together to design an interdisciplinary project that can be run in your classroom or school as part of or additional to the core curriculum. Ideally, this project will be run towards the end of term 3 and/or in term 4 to coincide with the Energies exhibition at PICA.

Why get involved?

Interdisciplinary project-based learning (including STEM and STEAM) is growing in popularity as a way of embedding '21st century' learning and teaching in the curriculum.

These projects will be designed with an explicit focus on the general capabilities (literacy, numeracy, ICT capability, critical and creative thinking, ethical understanding, intercultural understanding, and personal and social capability) and will mix elements of project-based learning and portfolio-based assessment in an interdisciplinary learning environment - pushing the boundaries of the traditionally siloed-school structure.

The EDfutures community believes that the key to driving systemic change in education is empowering teachers to solve education's 'wicked' problems. By collaborating, sharing and innovating within the education ecosystem, our community network aims to do just that.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is aimed at individual teachers or teaching-teams from WA high schools. This activity may be more suitable (but is not limited to) to the following learning areas:

Science, Arts and Technologies

Who is involved in EDfutures?

EDfutures educators – these are the teachers, lecturers, school leaders and school support staff who have a direct role in shaping the classroom and school environment. When a team of educators within a school work together (including teachers and school leaders) to implement whole-school programs, the school can become known as an EDfutures School.

EDfutures influencers – these are the individuals and teams that offer support to EDfutures educators. They represent a spectrum of businesses and organisations from across the WA community. Influencers have an investment in and/or passion for improving and innovating within the education system.

EDfutures Catalysts – these are exceptional individuals who network within and across community clusters. Catalysts welcome new members (individuals and organisations), run training sessions for members, promote the EDfutures ECO and contribute to the ongoing development of the EDfutures initiative.

The Fogarty Foundation

The Fogarty Foundation is a WA-based organisation founded by Brett and Annie Fogarty in 2000. The Foundation invests in education to provide opportunities for individuals to realise their potential and to change and enrich lives. The main initiatives run by the Foundation include Fogarty Scholars, Fogarty EDvance, CoderDojo WA and FogartyEDfutures.

Through these activities, the Foundation seeks to achieve a ripple effect of greater outcomes and long-term impact.

The ripple effect, depicted in the Foundation’s logo, is at the very essence of everything that the Foundation does.
