Event description

Description

Ecuador Somos Cultura is an event organised as part of the 2018 Georges River Council Discovery Festival of Community Arts. This year the festival will showcase eleven cultural development initiatives which highlight and celebrate the creativity, challenges and aspirations of diverse communities, using arts and culture as a means for expression, reflection and inclusion.

The Australian Ecuadorian Cultural Association is proud to be part of this year’s festival. It will be the first time the Ecuadorian community of the Georges River Council local area has the opportunity to celebrate its cultural identity together with the broader community in Sydney.

The day will begin with a screening of one of Ecuador's most loved films, En nombre de la hija. You will then be invited to enjoy some cultural bites, while having the opportunity to appreciate the best in Ecuadorian music and dance. Duo Jimenez and Ecua- Latinos Dance Group are among featuring artists.

Las Donas, Georges River Council Latin American Writers Group will also launch their first publication, El amor madre, el amor a la patria. Interactive readings by writer Elizabeth Mora and performance poet, Santa milloja, will be accompanied by music inspired by the publication. This will be performed by Duo Jimenez and Fiestaville Multicultural Choir.
