Description

ECU's School of Science is hosting hands-on programming workshops to adults who want to learn coding. Participants could range from in-service and pre-service teachers across all sectors, librarians, and even Coderdojo parents.

The workshops will be run over 4 terms throughout the year with each term consisting of 4 consecutive dates held on a Wednesday once a week.The School of Science lecturers and students will mentor and facilitate the class where you will be introduced to a range of coding activities using Scratch, Python (and Grok learning), and AppLab to create your own App. You will get the opportunity to ask questions and be guided throughout the lesson to learn more digital technology.

Example of lesson structure:

  • Systems, Computational and Design thinking:
  • Problem-solving: Computer jargon and logic
  • Programming: Interactive games and animations
  • Visual programming and general purpose programming: scripted and lines of code
  • Algorithms and algebra
  • Looping, variables, strings outputs

2018 Term dates - Wednesday's from 4pm-6pm:

  • Term 1: Wednesday’s March 14, 21, 28 and April 4, 2018
  • Term 2: Wednesday’s May 16, 23, 30 and June 6, 2018
  • Term 3: Wednesday’s August 29, September 5, 12 and 19, 2018
  • Term 4: Wednesday’s October 17, 24, 31 and November 7, 2018

Certificates of completion will be provided to attendees.
