Description

ECU's School of Science is hosting hands-on programming workshops for adults who want to learn to code. Participants could range from in-service and pre-service teachers across all sectors, librarians, and parents who are interested in knowing more about the Digital Technology revolution.


The workshops will be run over throughout the year with each term consisting of 4 consecutive workshops on a Wednesday afternoon (alternating between Joondalup and Mount Lawley campus) each week.The School of Science lecturers and students will mentor and facilitate the class where you will be introduced to a range of coding activities using Scratch, Python (Blockly and General Purpose), and AppLab to create your own App. You will get the opportunity to ask questions and be guided throughout the lesson to learn more about digital technologies.

Example of lesson structure:

  • Systems, Computational and Design thinking:
  • Problem-solving: Computer jargon and logic
  • Programming: Interactive games and animations
  • Visual programming and general purpose programming: scripted and lines of code
  • Algorithms and algebra
  • Looping, variables, strings outputs

2018 Term dates - Wednesday's from 4pm-6pm:

  • Term 1: Joondalup Wednesday’s March 14, 21, 28 and April 4, 2018
  • Term 2: Mount Lawley Wednesday’s May 16, 23, 30 and June 6, 2018
  • Term 3: Joondalup Wednesday’s August 29, September 5, 12 and 19, 2018
  • Term 4: Mount Lawley Wednesday’s October 17, 24, 31 and November 7, 2018

Certificates of completion will be provided to attendees.
