Description

Please join us at Sensei Samurai's which is designed to help people get started with coding. The workshops are open to adults who want to learn, Coderdojo parents, librarians, in-service and pre-service teachers across all sectors. By the end of this training, you will be able to code alongside your child or students!

ECU’s School of Science will be providing four Sensei Samurai 'introductory' Coding workshops for adults and educators ($143). Four lots of 2-hour weekday sessions - what a great opportunity to learn programming skills and find out why your children are interested in this coding phenomenon. Certificates will be provided at the completion of the course (totaling 8 hours).

The School of Science lecturers and students will be hosting 4 workshops in Term 4 for teachers or adults interested in learning how to code – starting from Scratch and finishing with Python. This will then be followed by a session that puts it all together by making your own App (App Lab) and having fun with code (Cost for the for the four sessions is $143 - payable by clicking onto the Pay Here Link below)

Learn:

  • Systems, Computational and Design thinking:
  • Problem-solving: Computer jargon and logic
  • Programming: Interactive games and animations
  • Visual programming and general purpose programming: scripted and lines of code
  • Algorithms and algebra
  • Looping, variables, strings outputs

Come along and be supported as you journey through your first steps in learning computer science. Mentors will help you to navigate instructions, languages, and definitions of the world of digital technology.

  1. Let’s begin with Scratch, develop an account and make educational games suitable for maths and spelling
  2. Code scenes with music and characters using ‘Hour of Code’
  3. We will finish with Coding in Python (Blockly at first and then General Purpose coding) using Grok learning (free to teachers)
  4. Finish with developing your own App from AppLab

Work at your own level of expertise, learning area, and year group and commence your coding journey.
