Event description

Description

ECU School of Science, Centre for Ecosystem Management

Presented by Visiting Scholars, ECU Researchers, Government and Industry.

Rangelands cover over three-quarters of the Western Australian landmass and have long supported pastoralism, as well as other industries, such as mining and tourism, which are the mainstay of the WA economy. Our rangelands are also rich in biodiversity and cultural assets, and achieving sustainable development, although a common objective, has proven to be difficult in many areas. A rangeland reform agenda has emerged in recent years, designed to improve social, economic and environmental sustainability through greater diversification and investment. This is an opportune time to take stock of the current status of rangeland sustainability, and explore alternative visions of our rangelands for the coming decades.
