As part of ECU’s internationalisation strategy, ECU has established joint PhD programs with major Chinese medical universities and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This panel will discuss the benefits of Joint PhD programs for internationalising universities and advancing research and knowledge across borders.

Internationalisation of higher education is a relatively new concept that is both broad and varied. It is defined as the 'intentional process of integrating an international, intercultural or global dimension into the purpose, functions and delivery of post-secondary education, in order to enhance the quality of education and research for all students and staff, and to make a meaningful contribution to society' (Jane Knight). Higher education institutions are internationalised through various activities including student and staff mobility, joint degrees, joint research activities, TNEs, branch campuses.

In that regard, ECU is strongly committed to providing opportunities for its students to become world ready graduates. As part of its internationalisation strategy, ECU has established joint PhD programs with major Chinese medical universities: Harbin Medical University, Capital Medical University, Taishan Medical University and Nanjing Medical University to attract and recruit high calibre international research students. In that regard, the panel will discuss the benefits of Joint PhD programs for internationalising univeristies and advancing research and knowledge across borders.
