Description

ECU School of Science, Centre for Marine Ecosystems Research

Presented by ECU Researchers and Guest Presenters

Northern Australia has some of the largest and most diverse seagrass meadows on the planet, which provide valuable ecological services and economic benefits. Yet these meadows are under threat from a variety of human pressures, particularly dredging. Protecting these meadows requires an understanding of how resilient they are to the pressures generated by dredging. Experts from around the country will present their research on Australia’s northern seagrasses and how they are affected by dredging, showcasing what we do and don’t know about these extensive but poorly understood ecosystems.
