Description

Devils, Dragons and Slow Plants: Ecology in the Pub

Can devils make a good bedtime story? Can dragons change sex? And what enlightenment can a plant offer?

Find out at Ecology in the Pub on November 6, as local researchers come to Smiths Alternative to share their efforts to study and save the world around us.

Sponsored by the Institute for Applied Ecology at University of Canberra, Ecology in the Pub features folk rock, eco-hiphop, sustainable stand up and more – for free!

The Line Up
A bedtime story about devils sounds like a recipe for nightmares, but Janine Deakin (Ecology UC) has a story about Tassie Devils that will warm your heart.

On the subject of nightmares, geologist Andrew Glikson is going to fill us in on recent studies of the climate’s future trends.

Meghan Castelli (Ecology UC) is study sex reversal in Bearded Dragons. Apparently the beard is no barrier to the process.

Plants are gurus, says Meena Sritharan (Fenner School, ANU) – the ultimate in the slow movement – so she’s taking a “leaf out of their book”, Ha Ha! (Don’t worry her stand up set will be way funnier than my puns! -Phil)

Dave Wong – aka Rap artist Diplo D – is on the look out for low-flying dragons. You should be too!

Kyle Hemming and Peter Bridgewater (Ecology at UC) are going to take us into a parallel universe where the Ecology is treated very differently…

Stephen Sarre and the Wild Types will rock out to finish the night off.
