Description

ECOLOGICALLY RESPONSIVE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT- INTRO

Jacques Boulet & Lesley Shuttleworth

In the context of the many ecological dilemmas besetting the earth, the explosive and seemingly uncontrollable growth of mega-cities must be one of the largest and most multi-dimensional. Against this background, community development - or the development of community - needs to run apace and alongside our attempts at developing our relationship with and understanding of nature and our broader ecology if we want to sustain ourselves and, in the process, save our earth. This workshop will, therefore, establish and focus on the priorities leading to the restoration of our human capabilities to relate with our (local) ecology in a regenerative way.

Learn about the principles and practices of working in a ‘place-based’ way and to create community (or do it in the ‘community development’ way) where-ever it is that you’re working and/or living. We’ll cover a bit of the history, take a brief look at traditional practice and think about what it means to be a community. We’ll explore the theoretical underpinning of the practice of community development as well as the values and principles on which it is based as we turn our attention to ecological and social regenerativity.
