Aspiring student fashion designers and models will showcase their fashion flair with edgy sustainable runway creations.

About this event

Whether you are an emerging fashionista, a student with creative flair, or a model wanting to create a showstopping runway look.. We invite you to enter the Gold Coast's first-ever kids and teens ECO EDGE fashion design competition.

You will be competing for trophies, prizes, and the title of

Rise To The Runway Jnr Designer of the year 2022.

All design entrants will be invited to attend a FREE interactive fashion and model industry masterclass facilitated by 3 highly respected, fashion/model industry Professionals. 👇

RECYCLED STREETWEAR

Category Description:

Judges will be looking for innovative, edgy, and fashion-forward designs with a strong, bold, youthful twist.

Utilise recycled fabrics, upcycled garments, and pre-loved accessories to create a unique streetwear look that will make its mark on the runway.

Category Rules:

All fabrics, upcycled garments, and accessories (except footwear) must be purchased from a preloved charity-run shopping outlet. eg. Lifeline, St Vincent, Red Cross etc...

Your total look (except footwear) must not cost more than $50 you must be able to supply receipts to prove the value of your look. ( some negotiation skills may be needed here )

Although the design concept should be solely the work of the student entrant, parents are permitted to help in the manufacture of the look (no paid or professional work may be utilised)

Entries may be modeled by the designer or a model of the same age as the designer. The entrant must supply their own model and will be in no way the responsibility of the event organisers to do so on your behalf.

All entries must be accompanied by a description explaining your look//the inspiration//use of materials//total budget. (your description form will be forwarded by email on registration)

Judges Criteria :

All submissions must meet the category description.

The judge's decision will be final. No verbal or written feedback will be accepted as respect and high regard for the professionalism of the judge's experience and industry knowledge.

Judges will be looking for Innovation and a unique design aesthetic by the designer.

Judges will look at the fit, form, and finish of each garment.

Entry will be judged on its ability to meet the category criteria and tell a unique design story on the runway.

Designers will be judged in the following age categories:

Minor Designers 7-10 years

Junior Designers 11-13 yrs

Senior Designers 14-16yrs

WEARABLE ART

Category Description:

Let your imagination challenge your creativity, with the use of unconventional materials, artistry and construction.

Use the ‘R’ words to inspire you.

Revolutionary | Ravishing | Rebellious | Radical | Radio-active.

Your piece of wearable art should scream innovation, amaze and capture the wonder of the judges and the audience.

Category Rules:

you may use any fabrics, recycled materials, paper products, organic matter,

Ensure all paints, dies and glues are non-toxic. No Harmful or toxic materials and /or chemicals may be used in any way.

The garment must be suitable to be worn and fit the model. There cannot be any parts of the garment that can injure, restrict runway movement or hinder the model's performance in any way.

MODEL / FASHION INDUSTRY MASTERCLASS & MODEL CASTING.

OPEN TO DESIGN ENTRANTS ONLY

All design entrants will be invited to attend a FREE interactive fashion and model industry masterclass facilitated by 3 highly respected, fashion/model industry Professionals.

The Masterclass will cover

  • Runway skills and tips
  • Styling advice
  • Confidence-building and Life skills

After the Masterclass designers/models will be invited to stay and participate in a casting call for Bon & Co for the ECO EDGE half-time fashion show.

With the potential of being chosen to walk the catwalk for Rise To The Runway in the GCFP Sport & Swim Runway in November.

This is a unique opportunity for young models to build pathways into a career in fashion, gain exclusive knowledge from industry insiders and have the potential to bag a spot on the runway of one of the hottest fashion shows this year.

MEET OUR JUDGES :

Joyce Santiago Savage

Speaker, Life & Business Coach at Joyce Santiago Savage

At the young age of 22, Joyce was offered her dream job as a fashion buyer for Lippy. while in this position she traveled the world season after season from Auckland, LA, New York, London, Paris, Japan, Hong Kong & China. She researched the most fashionable cities in the world seeking out the trendiest upcoming fashion trends to re-design/develop apparel pieces for women’s clothing that would suit their market.

At 26, Joyce left her dream job and New Zealand, to pursue a career in Fashion Blogging in New York. She lived both in Brooklyn and Manhattan strolling the streets and writing blogs for her “Only Daughter” page. Due to visa restrictions, Joyce left New York deciding to try her luck in Sydney, where she opened a fashion boutique on the prestigious Oxford Street, Paddington.

Currently, Joyce is a mumma of two, moving to the Gold Coast 4 years ago. She still consults in the fashion industry, although her passion is now focused on guiding people to create a better mindset through life coaching.

On top of an impressive career in fashion, Joyce was crowned Ms. Philippines – Auckland/New Zealand in 2002, Judged Miss World New Zealand in 2013, and currently representing Mrs. Universe Central Australia 2022.

Isabel Wetten

Isabel always loved fashion and the logistics behind it all, her first fashion show was at the age of 14, and she never looked back.

Born to a business-oriented family with creative flair, production has been her strong suit.

In 2016 Isabel decided to study personal styling with Cindy Newstead of Personal Styling Academy Melbourne and went on to style at the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival three months after that.

That same year she opened her Personal Styling business focusing on styling entrepreneurs according to their business and personal brand and running a professional photography business alongside it.

Reconnecting to her 14-year-old self, she was asked to build runway shows and fashion events in Brisbane and has produced 14 shows since 2017. These events have varied from fundraisers, and fashion festivals to solo designer shows.

She has also been a finalist Stylist of the Year two years in a row at the Women in Fashion Awards held at GOMA in Brisbane, been published in international magazines, and featured in women's business groups as both an entrepreneur and mentor.

With a media company, she has produced look books and campaigns for Brisbane designers and always gets rave reviews for producing amazing work.

With a 15-year corporate background, business acumen, creative flair, and the love of connecting people she co-founded a technology platform with her partner called Dashboard Online and built a coworking community called Women-Owned StartUps to support women in the start-up phase of business.

A serial entrepreneur, a constant dreamer, and a forever lover of fashion and creativity.
