Event description

Description

Eat the City is a project focused on food and security, created by artists Janet Carter and Elizabeth Pedler. Based on the principles of food- and knowledge-sharing, the project explores contemporary and fictive conditions of food precarity, and accessible routes for building resilience. Eat the City creatively engages audiences with these narratives through a number of different strategies.

For the Social Impact Festival, the artists will host a food philosophy workshop for participants. The 1.5 hour workshop will have both theoretical and practical components, inviting participants to learn about the concepts of increasing global precarity and creative resilience building that shape Eat the City, while also learning about the preparation and cooking of the unconventional and resilient foods embraced by the project.

The workshops will conclude with a communal sharing of the food prepared, giving participants the opportunity to taste the foods discussed, and to share with the artists their ideas about food precarity, building resilience, and possible strategies for survival.

Please arrive ten minutes before the workshop start time to register.

Donations:

This workshop will be run by donation, which can be given on the day. We suggest individual donations of $10, or a $2 donation for student/concession. All donations will contribute towards the running of the workshop and the Eat the City project.
