Event description
A long weekend learning and practicing drum and dance with a master drummer from Ghana and 7 of New Zealands most prominent teachers.

About this Event

Join us, For a long weekend of rejuvenation and re-focus like no other!

Set in the rolling hills overlooking lake Taupo, Yaw Asumadu, and a team of New Zealand’s most accomplished drummers and dancers will guide you through a journey of co-creation and ceremony, to help you to focus your intentions and overcome barriers and challenges in your life through ceremonial drum and dance.

Based on the traditional ceremony of Otu, Yaw will impart upon us the three rhythms and dances necessary to perform this ceremony on the Sunday night.

This will be supported by 7 of New Zealands finest teachers, who will both support the ceremony, and impart their knowledge on how to get the most out of the weekend with their own workshops throughout the event.

Yaw Asumadu grew up in a spiritually orientated family in Ghana where he was exposed to the traditional use of drum and dance in Ceremonial applications, and was encouraged by his family to learn to play the drums. This lead him to an expansive career that took him all over the world playing with the Pan African orchestra in Ghana and Adzido in London.

Now settling in New Zealand and ready to get back into his roots, Yaw is set to guide us on a journey that you won’t want to miss.

Camp for free, or take advantage of the fully prepared luxury beds on offer for the weekend.
