Australian Art Music Award finalist and flutist Keyna Wilkins and award-winning quiltmaker Dianne Finnegan join forces
About this event
Join us for this unique multi-disciplinary cross-art form event involving live flute and textile art. Inspired by the theme "Earth and Sky", the concert will feature two contemporary Sydney creatives: Keyna Wilkins (composer-flutist) and Dianne Finnegan (quiltmaker). Keyna Wilkins will perform her flute compositions and improvisations, including spoken poetry, often with loop pedal, to the curated backdrop of Dianne Finnegan's quilts. Following the concert, there will be a short exhibition of Finnegan's works in the hall extending to Sunday 3rd Oct.
Dianne Finnegan is an award-winning international textile artist. A pioneer in original cutting edge designs and techniques, she has presented exhibitions, lectures and workshops around the world including V & A Museum (London), International Quilt Festival (Houston, USA), Canada and many more. Using her background in geomorphology and passion for human rights, she creates highly unique patterns that have attracted global attention. Keyna Wilkins is a pioneering Australian/British composer-musician. She was one of three finalists for the Australian Art Music Awards for Individual Excellence in 2021 and 2018 (APRA/AMCOS). Her compositions are performed internationally and published by Wirripang. As an innovative solo artist performing her own works/improvisations/reinterpretations, and leader of cutting-edge chamber groups, her music is characterized by a fascination with astronomy, First Nations culture, jazz, dance forms and intuitive improvisation. She has performed solo and leading ensembles around the world. Wilkins is an Associate Artist with the Australian Music Centre and has five tunes in the Australian Jazz Realbook. www.keynawilkins.com
