Event description

Description

This Grand Round is in conjunction with the Women’s & Children’s Hospital and Healthy Development Adelaide.

Australian infant feeding guidelines encourage deliberate and regular inclusion of common allergens into baby’s diets to help prevent food allergy. However, there is no nationally representative information about Australian infant feeding practices to assess if this is happening. Researchers from SAHMRI’s Women and Kids theme will discuss how this knowledge gap is being addressed.

Speakers:

Dr Merryn Netting AdvAPD is an NHMRC Early Career (Health Practitioner) Fellow and an experienced clinical pediatric dietitian based at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Merryn is an Allied Health member of ASCIA and serves on the National Allergy Strategy Steering Committee. Her research focuses on the influence of early life nutrition on long term health.

Professor Tim Green joined the Healthy Mothers, Babies and Children theme in January 2016. Previously he was a Professor of Human Nutrition at the University of British Columbia and a Scientist at BC’s Child & Family Research Institute. His research focuses on micronutrients in pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, lactation, and early life (first 1000 days) with studies conducted in Canada, NZ, Asia and Africa. His group seeks to: identify micronutrient deficiencies through nutrition surveys; better define micronutrient requirements and pregnancy outcomes in these groups through RCTs; and develop sustainable strategies to improve micronutrient status.
