About this event

Early Birds provides a reduced-sensory, relaxed and supportive environment. This can make visiting the museum easier for visitors on the autism spectrum or those who have other access requirements, together with their family and friends. Make sure you register to experience the Australian Museum before it opens to the public.

Features of the event:

  • Designated quiet area for those needing to take a break
  • A Visual Story with more details on what to expect
  • Autism awareness and disability trained staff
  • A supportive environment limited to only around 100 visitors. You have the whole museum all to yourselves until 10am!
  • There will be a kiosk open for those needing an early morning beverage or snack. The main café will open from 10am.

Ages: All welcome!

Date: Dates in 2021 include, Saturday 16 January; 10 April; 2 October; 4 December

Time: 8am-10am, after which time the museum will be open to the public, however, Early Birds are welcome to stay for the remainder of the day.

Cost: FREE

Bookings essential. Places are limited and tickets should be booked in advance. There will be multiple Early Birds events throughout the year.

For note: Please advise of access requirements or requests at time of booking. We offer a range of accessible services including wheelchairs, hearing loops, and audio description tours. We recommend bringing along a favourite device as a comfort or distraction.

For more information visit FAQs or contact programs@austmus.gov.au

The Australian Museum has worked with Autism Spectrum Australia to make this an accessible event.
