About this event

Join us for our inaugural Education Series on Hearing Implants designed to support clinicians in maintaining clinical excellence and optimized hearing care for all clients. This series will cover the cochlear implant journey with a focus on complex referrals and bimodal management.

The Hearing Implant Series 2021/2022 includes:

  • 2 in-person workshops from 5:00 to 7:00pm Thursday 28th October 2021 and Thursday 26th May 2022 at the stunning Anzac House location in Perth's CBD; and
  • Bi-monthly research updates available online, offering you the flexibility to complete this in your own time around work and other commitments.

Workshop 1

Guiding your clients through the journey: A practical approach to cochlear implants.

In Person. Thursday 28th October 2021

In this interactive workshop, we will review case discussions and the standard of care for adult cochlear implantation and management options that best improve an individual's quality of life through optimizing hearing outcomes.

Cochlear implant candidacy criteria will be reviewed and discussed, including new easy to use 60/60 referral guidelines and potential barriers to referral.

Participants will be involved in case-based discussions and be able to ask questions and interact with an expert panel.

Program

  • 5:00pm – Registration, Tea, Coffee & Refreshments
  • 5:30pm – Factors influencing decision making for cochlear implant candidates and the importance of shared care for bimodal clients (Presentation)
  • 6:10pm – Bimodal management: Your questions answered (Panel Discussion with Audience Involvement)
  • 6:30pm – Case Study 1 & 2 (Facilitated group discussion)

Guiding your clients through the journey: From saying 'yes', to rehabilitation and bimodal management.

In this workshop, we will discuss a pragmatic approach to the underlying factors impacting decision making when considering cochlear implants and the importance of shared care in optimizing outcomes for bimodal clients.

This is an interactive workshop with participants being involved in case discussions and mentored by experienced implant audiologist facilitators.
