Dysphagia Disorders Workshops with Dr Justine Joan Sheppard
Deakin University is pleased to host Dr Justine Joan Sheppard, a Fellow of ASHA and a Board Certified Specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders. She is an Honorary Adjunct Associate Professor in the Communication and Communication Disorders program, Department of Biobehavioral Sciences at Teachers College, Columbia University, and has presented many training workshops in the USA, Canada, Australia New Zealand Singapore and Europe.
On Monday 30th January, attendees will undertake the 1 day certification workshop for the revised 2013 edition of
- The Dysphagia Disorders Survey (DDS);
- The Dysphagia Management Staging Scale (DMSS);
- The Choking Risk Assessment (CRA);
- The Pneumonia Risk Assessment (PRA)
(along with other DDS modules to support your clinical work)
On Tuesday 31st January, Joan will present 'Understanding and Improving swallowing and Feeding Function in Children and Adults with I/DD: Transition feeding to safe, mature skills', a presentation of her integrated approach to treatment of behavioural, developmental and physiologic based swallowing and feeding disorders as they occur in children and adults with intellectual and developmental disability.
On Thursday, February 2nd, there will be a special presentation to discuss Understanding and Treating Swallowing and Feeding Disorder in Children with Cerebral Palsy, followed by a discussion in the afternoon of actual case studies.
