DVCS Charity Feast
Event Information
About this Event
For those who do not know me, I’m Jo and for the last few years I have been on a fundraising adventure to raise awareness for Domestic Violence.
On Monday 22nd March 2021, I am hosting the DVCS Charity Feast to help raise much needed donations for the Domestic Violence Crisis Service here in the ACT.
My fundraising journey has not been an easy one. It started out as the White Ribbon Cycle for Women and Girls 2020 Cambodia, which later turned into Trek for Respect: Kokoda 2020. Then in late 2019, we were shocked with the news that White Ribbon Australia had gone into liquidation and no longer existed at that point in time. With the hurdles myself and my fellow trekkers faced, we had to choose a new organisation for the Trek and in saying this, I was able to look a little closer to home.
The Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVCS) is an amazing not-for-profit organisation here in my hometown. DVCS is passionate about breaking the domestic violence cycle in the Canberra community and are here to help people build lives free from domestic violence and fear. For more information, see the DVCS website.
Current statistics have reflected that we lost 42 Women, 17 Men, 12 Children and 3 Unknown from Domestic Violence during 2020 with numbers starting to grow in 2021. It truly breaks my heart!
I’m a rather private person and opening up to others has been a challenge in itself. For myself and probably for many others, it is hard to admit what happened. You never see yourself as a victim. You always see it as your fault. This trek was to symbolise the end of a time that I will never forget but instead of it bringing me down, I used it to build myself back up and try to prevent it from happening to someone else.
With the current COVID-19 situation, the Trek for Respect: Kokoda has now been officially cancelled as well as the originally plan for the Sunday Sesh for a Cause.
I’m proud to announce the DVCS Charity Feast
