Event Details

World Sight Day (WSD) is an annual day of awareness to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment, and is held on the second Thursday in October each year. So to bring attention to and celebrate this important day, on behalf of Deakin University and in partnership with Optometry Giving Sight, the Deakin University Optometry (DUO) Alumni Group is thrilled to be hosting our inaugural World Sight Day FUNdraiser!

Some great prizes will be available to win and be sure to enter our grand 50/50 raffle draw! But the headline act of the night will be the performance of the Deakin University Optometry Staff Band, “Jonny and The Optics”, fronted by lead singer and Dean of School of Medicine Professor Jon Watson! Some say the band is.....louder than U2, with an average age that is older than the Rolling Stones, having had as many platinum albums as Roger Federer, and recently released a (blank) CD called “Jonny and The Optics’ Greatest Hits." One thing we do know is that they're sure to rock your socks off!!!!

With your ticket you receive one free drink, some nibbles and that warm fuzzy feeling in your tummy from knowing that all ticket proceeds and fundraising from the night go towards a good cause!

So stash some cash in your pockets to ensure you can enter the silent auction and 50/50 raffle, and be sure to put your dancing shoes on because we're going to boogie all night! Partners, friends and neighbours all welcome

50/50 Raffle Details: Not heard of a 50/50 raffle before? No worries! The idea is that the grand prize equals 50% of the ticket sale proceeds. So essentially, the more tickets sold, the greater the prize pool and the greater the amount donated! Enter the draw today to win a prepaid Mastercard to the value of 50% of the ticket proceeds*  and feel great knowing that the other 50% will be donted to Optometry Giving SightThe raffle ticket also gives you entry into numerous other prize draws. So purchase your 50/50 raffle ticket online now**, at the door on the night, or from one of your friendly DUO Committee members

And remember this will be a great opportunity for Deakin Optometry and the wider community to not only catch up, but to also help raise money for Optometry Giving Sight as part of their World Sight Day Challenge. As optometrists, DUO Alumni Group understands the impact visual impairment can have on individuals, and we are most grateful for the work Optometry Giving Sight does. We are very proud to have the opportunity to support them and hope this will be one of many future fundraising initiatives supporting OGS.

Can't make it on the evening? Why not purchase a raffle ticket or make a donation through the online ticket sales.

See you there!

Lucy Ainge, Jac Kirkman, Daniel Strachan, Ashley Chan (DUO Alumni Committee)

*The prize pool is limited to $3000
