Description

Dealing with regulators is all too often the first interaction many managers have with work health and safety (WHS) laws. Without the benefit of understanding the scope of their obligations and the extensive powers of the WHS regulators, it is easy for those managers to get themselves and their companies into trouble.

In this Safe Work Month presentation, WHS laws expert Michael Tooma will discuss the minefield of regulatory powers available to WHS regulators to help managers who find themselves having to deal with a regulatory investigation.

About the presenter

Michael Tooma is the Asia Pacific lead partner of Clyde & Co's Regulation and Investigation practice. He is recognised as one of the leading health and safety lawyers in the region and was recently recognised by Best Lawyers 2018 as a leading lawyer in the areas of Occupational Health & Safety Law, Litigation and Government Practice.

In addition to his legal qualifications, Michael has a Certificate IV in Workplace Safety, has a certificate in Construction Safety induction and Rail Safety Induction and has formal training in OHS auditing.

Michael has reviewed or written the safety management systems of companies across industries, including companies in mining, oil and gas, aviation, stevedoring, transport, construction and infrastructure, franchising and telecommunication and broadcasting. He regularly undertakes global benchmarking projects for clients and facilitates safety peer reviews.

Michael has written and lectured extensively on OHS law and is the author of numerous texts on occupational health and safety law and practice in Australia and New Zealand.
