Presenter: Ange Wallace | Senior Dual Diagnosis Clinician, NEXUS Dual Diagnosis advisory service and the Department of Addiction Medicine, St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne

Cost: This event is provided at no cost by Murray PHN

Target audience: Alcohol and other drug workers, mental health workers, mental health nurses, aboriginal health workers, psychologists, social workers and general practice nurses.

Overview

This two-day training aims to develop a skilled workforce that is better equipped to support people who experience co-occurring mental health and substance misuse issues (Dual Diagnosis).

Learning outcomes

The training will introduce participants to several tools, which are designed to enhance therapeutic conversations and treatment planning in relation to working with people with dual diagnosis issues.

Tools used will include:

  • Importance and Confidence Ruler, Decisional Balance, Before, During and After Harm Reduction Tool and Five Change Questions.


Brief interventions has a very practical focus with experiential learning opportunities. Practice tools will include:

  • Reasons for Use Scale, Working with Cravings and Carers Can Ask.
