Event description

Description

A little about your presenter

Nathan has excellent hands on skills and is one of the best exponents of dry needling in the Geelong, Bellarine and Surf Coast region. His highly developed skills in Clinical Myotherapy and dry needling was recognised by Southern School of Natural Therapies in Melbourne where he was asked to teach their students. He now lectures part time in dry needling, pain neuroscience and oversees the student clinic.

What can I expect to gain from this workshop?

These one day dry needling refreshers are practical, hands on sessions aiming to refresh your knowledge of needling techniques and common trigger point (TrP) locations. They will focus on providing thorough anatomical and clinical reasoning to firstly justify and then apply the skills of myofascial dry needling under the guidance of Nathan Ulph, Clinical Myotherapist and SSNT Educator.

The first hour will be spent as an informal tutorial/discussion. This will look to firstly understand what each participant wants from the workshop and establish the groups skill level and experience. Nathan will present an update on various dry needling research and approaches using projector guidelines and a workbook.

The rest of the day, apart from breaks, will be 100% hands-on with each participant working with a partner to dry needle muscles of their choice. The full colour illustrated workbook, will be emailed to all participants to be viewed on their choice of devices or printed for the day (please be advised an additional $5 is billed for participants requesting a printed manual), providing common trigger point locations and needle depths, angles, safety considerations/checklist, indications and contraindications for DN applications.

This workshop is best suited to attendees that are looking to refresh their dry needling technique, therapists that may have undertaken studies in dry needling more than 5+ years ago (as some technique applications may have changed), new graduates looking to 'sharpen' their skills and increase confidence with using DN in clinical environments and anyone else who simply wants to get amongst their peers and learn from a highly skilled educator and their colleagues.

You will learn or refresh how to:

  • Approach trigger points, locations and variations
  • Use variations on needle insertion and withdrawal
  • Manipulate the needle and how long to leave the needle in
  • Needling cautions, contraindications and needle directions for higher risk muscles
  • Endangerment sites
  • Dry needling and the pregnant client
  • How to avoid causing, and also recognising a pneumothorax
  • Adapt your needling technique to your patient and their needs

Morning and Afternoon tea provided and basic beverages. Please bring with you one towel for the day. Due to food intolerances and personal preferences, attendees are advised to bring their own lunch or may choose from the number of cafes in the surrounding area.
