Description

This half-day workshop provides insights about the prevalence and impacts of substance misuse amongst the working population. There will be a sharing of knowledge and perspective from someone with lived experience, providing strategies for identifying and supporting colleagues/employees who are struggling with substance use issues to reduce the potential for associated workplace health and safety risks.

What you will learn:

  • Understand the prevalence and impacts of substance misuse in the workforce

  • Identify colleagues who may be struggling with substance use issues

  • Practise implementing strategies for supporting colleagues or employees with substance use issues

  • Develop strategies for responding to risks associated with substance use in the workplace

Training facilitator:

Jennifer Furby - Grad Dip in Community Sector Management, Grad Cert in Alcohol and Drug Studies, Bachelor in Alcohol and Drug Studies

Jen has over a decade of experience in the not for profit and private sector, predominantly in alcohol and other drugs and more recently in youth homelessness. Holding relevant qualifications, Jen’s skill set includes managing teams and working with clients from diverse backgrounds with complex needs. Jen is extremely passionate about supporting practitioners in their own professional development to ensure a high standard of service delivery to clients. Jen has worked with clients from diverse backgrounds including people from CALD, LGBTI+ and Aboriginal and Torre Strait Island communities. She is a Director of the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria (YACVic) Board, the peak advocacy body for the youth sector and young people in Victoria, and also sits on RMIT University’s Advisory Committee for Certificate IV and Diploma in Community Services.

What are my transport/ parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking: There is local parking available in Turner St, Sackville St and Easey St; alternative parking is available off Lulie St (on the eastern side of the Railway line off Johnston St), adjacent to Victoria Park stadium. Please be aware of clearway zones during certain times of the day.

Public transport: We are a five minute walk from Victoria Park station (South Morang, Hurtbridge and Greensborough lines). Our office is also accessible from bus routes on Hoddle St (towards Richmond or Clifton Hill) and Johnston St (towards City/ Lonsdale St or Kew)
