3:00-5:00pm Tuesday 13 October

Cost: $0 Drinks and nibbles provided

Join us for the inaugural Public Sector Innovation Conversation, a focused discussion designed to drive innovation in the public sector in Tasmania. This will be the first of a series designed to engage the knowledge and experience of all participants.

The first conversation topic is:

DRIVING PUBLIC SECTOR INNOVATION: WHAT CAN WORK IN TASMANIA?

We are fortunate that Stephanie Wade from the US Office of Personnel Management’s Innovation Lab will join us to contribute her extensive experience.

Why you?

You have been specifically invited to participate based on your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm. We want you to actively contribute to the conversation, which will follow a simple path:

  • What approaches are applicable to public sector innovation?

  • What are the challenges in applying these approaches in Tasmania?

  • What opportunities are there for future innovation?

To allow for a rich conversation numbers will be capped to 20 participants. If oversubscribed, participants will be selected to ensure diversity of input (taking into account knowledge, experience, sector and breadth of representation).

About the Public Sector Innovation Network

The Public Sector Innovation Network (PSIN) is an Australian Public Service (APS) initiative endorsed by the APS Secretaries Board as part of the ongoing APS innovation agenda. The Department of Industry and Science is tasked to take a leadership role in the initiative, and it provides the PSIN Secretariat who maintains the PSIN’s functions including; the PSIN website and newsletter, Co-ordinators Group, State Chapter Coordinators, Innovation Champions Group and the Innovation Month programme.

The purpose of the PSIN is share information on public sector innovation. For this purpose it is open to all tiers of government and the public.

The Public Sector Innovation Network in Tasmania

The PSIN has historically been Canberra focused. To bring more state-based representation into the network, a State Chapter Coordinators group consisting of officers from the portfolio agency was established in July 2015.

In line with the establishment of this group, a small group of interested Tasmanians have come together to discuss what value the PSIN could provide in this state, leading to the following draft purpose statement:

The purpose of the PSIN (Tas) is to support an ecosystem in Tasmania in which public sector innovation can flourish. It will strive to enable the right conversations between the right people at the right time.

The PSIN in Tasmania will achieve this by holding focused conversations on topics that can either drive, or will require, innovation in the public sector. The purpose of these conversations is for participants to make connections for future action.

To join the PSIN in Tasmania, sign up for the newsletter and select that you are interested in joining a local PSIN group.
