Join us for our last photography workshop for 2020.
If you've always wanted to learn how to capture soft and dreamy outdoor portraits in natural light, then this workshop is for you!
- Learn about the best lenses that will let you create these style of portraits, and how to best use them.
- Understand depth of field and discover how you can create super shallow depths of field in your portraits.
- Find out how to position and pose your portrait subject for backlight, soft light and directional lighting in an outdoor environment.
- Learn how to control and manage natural light outdoors to create the kind of lighting that evokes a dreamy look.
Whether you're just starting out in portraiture or are a more experienced photographer, you'll pick up great tips and techniques for creating portraits using natural light!
We begin this workshop with an overview of the settings, techniques and types of lenses used to create these style of portraits. Armed with an understanding of these key concepts and tips for shooting portraits, we'll then shoot with our model/s on location at Kent Street Weir. With its natural bushland and riverine environments, this is a great location for outdoor portraiture.
When it gets closer to sunset, you'll learn how to shoot backlit portraits and how to create a soft "veil" effect by allowing the sun to seep into your frame. Finally, we wrap up with a shoot after the sun has set, using the softer light of the afterglow to create a different look in your portraits.
All this in two-hours of action pack learning by doing!
You'll be led by professional photographer and portrait lighting teacher, Seng Mah, through the session and come away with great captures! It's going to be a workshop that's full of fun and, if you're not a portrait photographer yet, it'll make you fall in love with portraiture!
Don't miss out as this event is limited to 8 participants.
WHAT TO BRING
- Your interchangeable lens camera (DSLR or mirrorless) with memory card/s and batteries (always bring a fully charged spare).
- For best results, we recommend shooting with wide-aperture prime lenses that are in the 50mm - 135mm range. Wide aperture lenses include lenses that can open up to f/1.2 to f/1.8. You can also use 70-200mm f/2.8 lens for this workshop as it produces similar results. Lenses that only go down to f/4 are unsuitable (as they do not have the capacity to create the soft bokeh, dreamy look).
- Optional: A white reflector (a fairly large one - around 90cm - 100cm in diameter) if you have one.
Note: In the event of inclement weather on the date/time of the workshop, this event will be re-scheduled to Sunday 20 December, with the same running time. When booking, please make sure you are available on both date.
Refund requests: You can request a refund up until 7 days prior to the workshop date. Please note that effective 1 July 2019, Eventbrite will no longer refund the booking fee (which is included in the price of this event). If you request a refund, your money will be refunded less the Eventbrite booking fee.
