Event Information
About this Event
Would you like to know what the sport of dragon boat racing is all about and experience this exciting fun filled team sport for yourself ? Well..................
A dragon boat is essentially a long boat 12ft in length, a canoe powered by up to 20 people with paddles. Originally found in the Pearl River Delta region of China, dragon boating came about when a poet-statesman fell into the river and fishing boats raced to rescue him. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain, but the sport of dragon boat racing was born, and has now spread around the world.
Adelaide Combined Dragon Boat Club (ACDC) are a South Australian club with members based in Adelaide at West Lakes, Goolwa and Tatiara. We are very active in competitions run by the South Australian Association, DragonBoat SA. However it's not all about competition, for club members it's just as important to have a friendly and enjoyable environment.
At this introductory session, you will be introduced to the sport of dragon boating, and be briefed on the importance of team work, technique and camaraderie. One of the coaching staff will run through safety procedures, show you the basic technique to get you started, and introduce you to the committee and other club members to ensure you are made welcome.
All you need to bring is:-

- sportswear appropriate for the weather that can get wet
- shoes that can get wet (old sneakers or thongs)

- Sense of fun
The club will provide you with the other equipment you need to get started, including a life vest, training paddle, and coaching.
