Event description

Description

Join prominent evolutionary psychologist Dr Douglas J. Lisle in Canberra on Wednesday 19 February as he reveals the secrets of The Pleasure Trap - Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health and Happiness.

*Tickets now on sale*

According to Dr Lisle, losing weight is both the number one personal goal and the biggest single cause of psychological angst amongst people living in the developed world.

A thought leader in evolutionary theory and human psychology, Dr Lisle has observed that the root cause of weight gain and other self-destructive behaviours can be attributed to a psychological phenomenon known as ‘the pleasure trap’.

“It’s really the key to understanding basically all addiction processes,” he says. "It also helps us to understand why it’s difficult to do some other things that might be very good for us to do, like get in better physical condition, or get our lives organised.”

Dr Lisle will extensively cover this phenomenon at his 'one night only' talk in Canberra. The ideas that he will be talking about, "are very sensible; they’re straight forward - although they are counter-intuitive in some ways."

Representatives and medical professionals from Australian registered charity Doctors For Nutrition will open the event with a presentation on the powerful role of plant-based nutrition in healthcare.

This special event is proudly hosted by The Canberra Weekly Magazine
