Join us at the Astor Theatre for the Australian Premier of The Fix with Johann Hari live & Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presly movie extravaganza.
About this event
Join Johann Hari at the Astor Theatre for a night of enlightenment and entertainment.
Drug Policy Australia is screening the Australian Premier of The Fix narrated by Samuel L Jackson and the much-anticipated new release Hollywood blockbuster movie Elvis.
The Fix is based on Johann Hari’s 'Chasing the Scream' and explores the drug wars in the United States and society's misunderstanding about drugs and addiction.
Elvis, a movie extravaganza by Baz Luhrmann starring Austin Butler and Oscar winner Tom Hanks, explores Elvis Presley's meteoritic rise to one of the most famous performers in history.
Elvis’ dramatic fall from grace while battling food and drug addiction underscores that addiction is part of the human condition and can happen to anyone.
Johann Hari will join us live from London to discuss the making of the documentary ‘The Fix’ and his epic worldwide journey to discover the truth about drugs and addiction.
Information Tables from Australia’s leading Alcohol and Other Drug charities will be present to answer your questions, hand out information and explain their services. In addition, Harm Reduction Victoria will be conducting Naloxone demonstrations showing how to save someone from overdosing on opiates.
Books, Fentanyl testing strips, drug testing kits and other merchandise will be available.
Doors will open at 5:45 pm and refreshments will be available.
About Support Don't Punish campaign
During the last week of June, more than 150 cities across the world will take part in the global advocacy campaign ‘Support. Don’t Punish’, calling on governments to enact drug policies that prioritise public health and human rights.
Note: We are replacing the previously advertised movie Candy with the new Elvis blockbuster to coincide with the worldwide release on the 24th of June. Our friends at the Astor Theatre offered us the option, and we couldn’t refuse. We hope you enjoy it.
