Event description
Please join our Domestic violence – a survivor’s story event, sponsored by Rio Tinto and Women in Mining & Resources (WIMARQ).

About this event

The pandemic and lockdowns have unfortunately further impacted domestic violence statistics, and this year’s White Ribbon Day was a particularly significant reminder of this serious issue. With the upcoming 16 days of activism – a campaign against gender-based violence, from 25 November to 10 December, it is an opportunity for communities to unite and speak out.

Please join our Domestic violence – a survivor’s story event, sponsored by Rio Tinto and Women in Mining & Resources (WIMARQ), the inclusion and diversity arm of the Queensland Resources Council (QRC).

The intimate ‘riverside chat’ will be facilitated by Rachel Durdin, General Manager, Sustainability, Rio Tinto with domestic violence survivors, Ashleigh Turner, Procurement Asset Optimisation Manager, Australian Agricultural Company and Garry Davies, Closure and Rehabilitation Specialist, Rio Tinto.

Both Ashleigh and Garry will share their personal experiences and inspirational stories of survival, while reflecting on the far-reaching impact of domestic violence from both a male and female perspective.

The event will include Q&As and be followed by networking opportunities with canapes and drinks. You can choose to pre-submit questions anonymously by COB Tuesday, 30 November and we will endeavour to include them in the discussion.

In order to manage and control the spread of COVID-19, it is a Rio Tinto requirement that you complete the pre-screening questionnaire prior to your arrival.
