Event description

Description

Discover the Better Farming Train, a travelling agricultural school and experimental farm that toured the Victorian countryside during the 1920s and 1930s. Inside each carriage visitors could see demonstrations and lectures on topics from identifying diseased potatoes to child health. Promoting the promises of science, the carriages featured moral messaging to encourage productivity and self-betterment, such as ‘Healthy crops make wealthy owners’, ‘Farm with your head’ and ‘Feed your fields and flourish’.

Join curator Bethan Johnson to explore how the hopes of modernity shaped farming in Victoria.
