If your business has recently begun exporting to China and would like to gain a better understanding of the cultural differences of doing business in China, this workshop could provide you with useful insights.


Jing Cao, managing director of Chinese Language and Cultural Advice (CLCA), will discuss essential cross-cultural communication skills required for doing business in China.



Topics covered include:

  • A glimpse of the Chinese power structure and how it influences communication style
  • Chinese understanding of relationships and responsibilities
  • Cultural factors that influence communication—‘face’, thought process, age, gender, etc.
  • Branding and marketing in Chinese context
  • Pronouncing names in Mandarin Chinese

  • Learning strategies to minimise the risk of being ‘lost in translation’
  • Developing cross-cultural communication skills when interacting with Chinese people

  • How to adapt your brand story, and create a differentiated value proposition for China


Speaker bio: Jing Cao, Managing Director - CLCA


Jing Cao is the Managing Director of CLCA. Jing is an expert in management consulting, cultural competency training and brand communication strategy. His clients include many government agencies, industry associations, universities, tourism destinations, and FMCG companies. He sits on many corporate advisory boards to provide strategic advice, particularly in the areas of cultural intelligence, inclusion and diversity.


Jing has been involved in the following projects in the past 12 months:
