Event description

Description

Men's health frameworks/charters exist nationally and in other states but not in the ACT.

This forum, focussing on a major men's health issue, mental health, will bring interested parties including ACT Minister for Mental Health, Greens MLA, Shane Rattenbury to discuss whether there is a need to frame a charter around men's health in the ACT.

Presented by Jane Grace and Tim Daly from Red Flag Canberra and by This Is My Brave Australia Inc., come and have your say on how you think men's health should represented in the ACT.

Our guest speakers will be

ACT Minister for Mental Health, Greens MLA, Shane Rattenbury

    • Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability (October 2016–present)
    • Minister for Mental Health (October 2016–present)
    • Minister for Corrections and Justice Health (November 2012–present)
    • Minister for Justice, Consumer Affairs and Road Safety (November 2012–present)
    )

Josh Vaughan from Mengeneering

The Mengineering Program works with fathers and sons living within the Canberra region. Father involvement is positively linked with children’s overall life satisfaction, wellbeing and mental health. In particular, sons whose fathers are involved are more likely to feel connected to them, are better able to handle new and unfamiliar situations, can manage stressful situations, and are more supported and eager to explore their environment.

Michael Aichholzer, men's mental health speaker and lived experience advocate

Michael is a defence force veteran and lived experience mental health advocate sharing his story in events across Canberra.
