Reaching Out and Looking In: Independent Chinese Documentary Today
A talk by Dan Edwards

China’s independent sector has produced some of the most urgent and affecting documentaries of the last 20 years. How has documentary practice changed in this time and how is it becoming both more international, and more directly engaged with local communities inside China? What is the social/political significance of independent Chinese documentary, and what is its future in an increasingly censorial China? Dan Edwards will outline these key developments in recent Chinese documentary – and how digital technology has been crucial in facilitating changes.
